We’re delighted to share that our paper, “Eliminating Latency in Remote Music Performance: A Browser-Based Synchronization System for Music Education,” has been accepted to the 2026 NAfME Biennial Music Research and Teacher Education Conference.

The conference, hosted by the National Association for Music Education, takes place September 30 – October 3, 2026, at the Hilton Long Beach in Long Beach, California.

What the paper covers

The paper presents Lyrekos as a browser-based system for synchronized remote music performance, with a focus on its applications for music education. Topics include:

  • Why network latency makes traditional video conferencing tools unsuitable for ensemble music
  • The synchronization approach Lyrekos uses to sidestep the physical latency limits of the internet
  • Practical applications for remote choir rehearsal, one-on-one lessons, and ensemble teaching
  • Observations from early educator users running real sessions

For background on the underlying problem, see Why Zoom Fails for Music. For a hands-on walkthrough of how an Organizer runs a session, see The Lyrekos Quick Start Guide.

What’s next

We’ll share more about the paper, the conference program, and our plans for the broader NAfME community as the dates approach.
